Overlook barn was Laura and Rob’s dream venue. It was close to Tennessee where Laura’s mom lives, it had mountain views which was the only deal breaker when shopping for venues for their perfect day, and it had the Cliff Side barn. The sweetest barn for a small wedding. Both Laura and Rob agreed to a small wedding with just close family and friends. Laura and Rob are from the Washington, DC area, along with most of their friends and family. I have worked several weddings now at Overlook and I have never seen those views any clearer. It was gorgeous, sunny and 75!
They had a beautiful triangular arbor that Rob made. It was one of my favorite parts of the decor. It was so sweet how Laura couldn’t stop talking about it too! So I know it had to be one of her faves as well. One of their closest friend’s officiated their ceremony. Their DJ, another close friend played the Sax as Laura walked down the aisle. Smash Event’s did a beautiful job with the florals. Laura wanted rustic organic flowers and Smash Events came through with a mix of succulents, eucalyptus, kale, etc. The flowers placed on the arbor tied everything together.
The food! I remember Laura and Rob being super excited about the food at their engagement session. Laura doesn’t eat meat so they made sure there was an amazing variety! They brought down gluten and dairy free desserts. The brownies were amazing!!
The most important thing to Laura and Rob was for their friends and family to travel down to Overlook Barn and have the best time. Spend time together, and just celebrate!
Straight from the questionnaire I send out to all my couples post wedding:
Laura worked at Georgetown Running store in Washington D.C. part time and Rob was the new manager. One Sunday in January, Laura was out on an 18 mile run and stopped into the store for some water before heading home. She saw this very handsome man in the store, she didn’t say hi… Rob says she was kind of rude actually. Eventually he introduced himself as the new manager. They exchanged contact information and said he’d reach out if there was snow emergency. This was the start of the fun! Laura and Rob worked together and then eventually began running together in May. They loved running the trails in Georgetown or Rock Creek Park both in Washington D.C. at night. After a few friendly runs they would go out and enjoy a beer after the run, sometimes with friends but then alone and things just progressed from there!
Fast forward to 2 years later and Rob surprised Laura with a trip to Banff, in Alberta Canada for her birthday. The trip was planned for June 2018. Rob had researched many hikes he wanted to do, some more intense than others but they were able to agree on going to the iridescent Lake Louise and hike a fairly well travelled route up to the Tea House. Once they got to the Tea House they decided they wanted to continue the hike all the way up to the Bee Hive. Mind you this was in June but because of the elevation there was snow that they had to walk through and some areas were pretty steep, but gorgeous. Once they finally reached the top, they set up to take a few pictures of Lake Louise and The Fairmont. It was super gorgeous, like take your breath away (also because we were very high up and there was not much on either side if we fell). Rob and Laura took a ton of pictures and when the sun came out the moment was just right- Rob dropped to his knee while a tourist took pictures and asked Laura to marry him.
Laura’s beautiful dress was from BHLDN. She dreamed of lace and something body hugging! The deep V back sold Laura and she knew it was her dress.
